Pro Tip Tuesday : Prevent Cracked Matte Lips

Hello Faces By Amelia Fam!
Back at it again with another Pro Tip Tuesday! This week we will be talking about the dreaded dry cracked matte lip and some tips on how to keep those lips sleek and on fleek year round. Seems like despite the brand and numerous Youtube views, your liquid lips are still looking cracked or textured as a result of applying too many coats. Here are a few great tips that will help create a smoother longer lasting look.

1. EXFOLIATE!
-Do not skip this step, it is by far the most important of all the steps provided below. By exfoliating your lips you will be removing all the dead/dry skin from your lips which will leave your lips looking fuller and smoother. Use a soft bristle tooth brush and sugar lip scrub to rub away that dry skin. If you notice skin cracking or bleeding you may need to use finer brush/scrub, as you do want to further agitate the skin.

2. Hydrate/Condition
Follow with a creamy lip balm, I suggest something with SPF in the formula for added benefits. I know it may see counter-intuitive to add a hydrating product under a matte, but this will help to keep the lips looking soft and smooth.

3. Prime
Use a face or lip primer to prep the lips, this will help to prevent the color from bleeding. We know how hard some of these brands can be to remove their highly pigmented long wear formulas at the end of the night, the last thing you want is for the color to bleed before you're ready to take the product off.

4. Concealer
Using a clean concealer brush, apply foundation or concealer around the edge of the lip to create more definition to your natural lip line. This will help you lip color to pop, define lip shape, as well as act as an added defense against the product bleeding. If you feel your lips already have a very defined shape this step can be skipped. Remember to blend out the product so you don;t create an obvious halo around the mouth.

5. Lip Liner
Another key step to preventing transfer and smudge, applying liner in a natural flesh tone or complimentary shade will create a base for the lip prodct to sit on as well as helps to create a define lip shape. For those who aren't entirely happy with their lip shape can subtly alter the shape and appearence by lining just outside the natural line for more fullness or along the lip line for a more natural look.

6. LASTLY Apply matte shade and let dry.
